Free and Confidential Ultrasound Referrals
A pregnancy test is the first step in verifying your pregnancy, but often you need an ultrasound to gain other important information. We are happy to provide you with a referral for a free, local ultrasound.
What Is Ultrasound?
An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the inside of your uterus. A technician applies a gel onto your abdomen and rubs a wand-like device called a transducer through the gel. The echoes of the sound waves are recorded and transformed into images.
Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?
Before you can make a decision about your pregnancy, you need more information. An ultrasound scan can help you get the answers to the following questions:
- Is my pregnancy viable? A viable pregnancy is growing with a detectable heartbeat. The Mayo Clinic states that up to 20% of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) estimates that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Ultrasound confirms if your pregnancy is viable or if you have had a miscarriage.
- How far along are you in your pregnancy? This is especially important if you are considering abortion. The type of abortion procedure you receive is determined by how long you have been pregnant.
- Where is the pregnancy located? Although rare, some pregnancies form outside the uterus. This is called an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy can be extremely dangerous and should be discussed with your healthcare provider immediately.
